This week I tackled the design of skid steers. Not interested in their terrestrial applications, I wanted to envision how they might be used one day on Mars to help set up a colony.
Starting off with some basic research.
I knew I wanted to keep my forms simple and round without many hard edges. There's enough dust on Mars as it is and I figured it'd be easier sweeping out a rounded corners than one made of hard edges.
I didn't take it any further but the Renault Twizy inspired skid steer on the bottom right was one of my favourite concepts.
I spent longer than I should've reading NASA's official documents about their wheel designs only to conclude I have no idea what they would need to look like.
Final story board to show context.
